How to enhance your jewellery and make it look its best in a photo shoot!
When it comes to enhancing your jewellery in a photo shoot, it’s important to think about the details in order to make it look its best. Other than the obvious technicalities such as lighting, angles and focus, it is always wise to think about how to make your product look fun and desirable. Here at Capture Factory, we are constantly having different and exciting jewellery photoshoots. This has given us the idea to compile some top tips on how to enhance your jewellery through photography!
Background
Backgrounds play a big part in jewellery photo shoots. Is it going to be plain or interesting? Will it be an in studio shoot or an on location shoot? Is it going to be in or out of focus? The background sets the tone for the photoshoot and should represent the style of your product. It shouldn’t be too fussy or take away the attention from the actual piece of jewellery, but it should help make it look as gorgeous as it can be! Perhaps it could include the same colour tones as the product, colours that enhance your jewellery, or even some crazy patterns! Here are some examples of a location shoot we had at the beach to showcase these beautiful pieces.
Props
Props can either make or break your product. This means you should choose wisely and not just fill the image with un-needed clutter. Props could be as simple as a necklace stand or, alternatively, they can make the image really interesting and be contrasting in colours and shapes to your products in order to make them stand out. You could make them really bold such as using glitter or other large components in the background to enhance your jewellery. The most important thing is to have fun with it and use them creatively to make your photos stand out from the rest!
Models
Before thinking about shooting any of your jewellery, you should decide wether you want your jewellery to be worn or simply laid out on a set. Models are a great way to showcase how well your jewellery can look when its actually on and they can really bring your jewellery to life. Models can play around with the products, enhance your jewellery and show how versatile it can be. People love to see what the jewellery will look like before they buy it, so models can really increase people’s desire to purchase the jewellery!
Makeup and Outfits
In the case that you decide to use a model for your jewellery shoot, you have the possibility to go crazy and try out all sorts of different make up looks! You could be simple and subtle so that you place the main focus on the jewellery or you could go with a dramatic look to add depth to the image. A very important factor however, is to always hire a professional makeup/hair stylist for these types of shoots, as you want this to enhance your product and make it look polished, not inelegant and amateurish. The same goes for the outfits that the model is wearing. You can style your jewellery in all sorts of different ways depending on the look that goes with it.
Poses
Say you are modelling rings, or bracelets etc. You ideally want the hand gestures of the model to complement the products, and not make them look too dull. Trying new poses can really give the client a new perspective on your product and enhance the look of the jewellery. It is also advisable for whoever is modelling your jewellery to have a clean and polished look and have well kept and painted nails for example. Nobody wants to see pretty jewellery on an unkempt hand!
