Always great to do a childrens wear shoot
When we hear the ever chipper tones of Tracy’s warm Scottish accent we are filled with excitement and anticipation. It can mean only one thing: a baby or childrens wear shoot!
The photography of babies and children takes a bit more mental preparation than our regular everyday fashion shoots. Setting up lighting and dressing sets is second nature to our in house stylists and technicians. The Rotalux lighting is finely tuned to accentuate the subjects features and illuminate the garments we’re due to shoot.
These are all things we know well at Capture Factory. However, there is a variable in photographing garments for Tracy which is not so second nature for us. That is the inclusion of lots of infant models.
Shooting with children and babies
Children do not take direction the way our models sourced from agencies do. They’re too full of free will with a very short attention span and defiant nature. This poses a challenge which is now becoming a more frequent occurrence in the studio as we participate in more baby photoshoots and we love it.
Armed with an arsenal of sweets, toys, bubble machines and squash our team keeps the little ones entertained and engaged while Tracy and Capture Factory photographer Rory do their best to capture the kiddies in the perfect pose.
We’re glad to say that we pull it off every time and this Brighton based children’s-wear designer returns periodically to unleash a fresh load of babies, toddlers and infants on our studio and keep us on our toes because the images look amazing.
You can see the delight in the mum’s faces which is really nice for our team to see. The children rather run around in circles haemorrhaging jelly babies from mouths and limbs.
We love the challenge and the end results have us wincing at how cute the mini models look in their snappy outfits for days during the editing process. We also occasionally get to polish off the leftover sweets which is always welcome, but we relish the silence in the studio for at least a day after the event.
